Welcome to Biker Meetups. We are a social networking platform and motorcycle community dedicated to turning solo rides into shared adventures. We provide group ride discovery, real-time navigation, social features, and safety tools specifically designed for riders.

Biker Meetups ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (https://bikermeetups.co.uk). Please read this policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access the application.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information that identifies, relates to, or could reasonably be linked to you ("Personal Data").

A. Information You Provide to Us

  • Account Information: Name and email address. If you sign in via Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from them. We treat Apple private-relay email addresses identically to standard email addresses.
  • Motorcycle Details: Information about your bike (make, model, CC) to help filter appropriate group rides (e.g., 125cc-friendly rides).
  • Communication Data: Messages sent through our group and direct chat features for ride planning.
  • Emergency Contact Information: Name and phone number of your designated emergency contact for our SOS features.

B. Information Collected Automatically

  • Precise Location Data: We collect precise GPS location data to enable the Live Rider Map, full Google Maps navigation, and Route Tracking.
  • Background Location: To ensure the Emergency SOS and Crash Detection features function while your screen is off or the app is in the background, we may collect location data even when the app is not actively in use.
  • Device and Usage Data: IP address, device type, operating system, app version, and crash logs.
  • Sensor Data: For users utilising our Crash Detection feature, we collect accelerometer and gyroscope data to detect potential impact events.

C. Pro Features Data

  • Ride Analytics: For Pro users, we store detailed route history, speed, distance, and elevation data to provide performance insights.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to provide a safe and engaging experience, specifically for:

  • Service Delivery: Creating and managing your account, providing live rider maps and navigation, facilitating group ride discovery and creation, and enabling chat.
  • Safety Features: Activating Emergency SOS alerts and Crash Detection. In the event of a detected crash or SOS trigger, your location and status may be shared with your designated emergency contacts and/or emergency services as appropriate.
  • Social Features: Populating leaderboards, awarding badges, and allowing users to discover and join rides.
  • Ride Analytics (Pro): Providing Pro subscribers with route analytics, including ride history and performance statistics.
  • Analytics: Improving app performance and reliability.
  • Communication: Sending ride updates, security alerts, and support messages.
  • Marketing (Optional): With your granular consent, we may send you our newsletter and offers from selected partners (e.g., retailers, insurers). These messages are sent by us, and we do not share your email address with those partners for their own marketing.

3. Sharing of Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • With Other Users: Your username, profile picture, and real-time location are visible to other riders in your group rides and/or on the Live Map based on your privacy settings.
  • Emergency Services/Contacts: If a crash is detected or SOS is triggered, your location may be shared with your designated emergency contacts and/or emergency services.
  • Service Providers: We share data with third-party vendors who perform services for us, including: Google Maps (navigation and mapping), Resend (transactional email), Stripe (Pro subscription billing), Eventbrite (event discovery), and our infrastructure provider Emergent (web hosting and database). Each vendor processes data under their own privacy commitments and contractually-bound data processing agreements.
  • Legal Obligations: Where required by law, we may disclose information to public authorities or to protect the safety of our community.

4. Data Security and Retention

We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your data.

  • Infrastructure: We use MongoDB on Emergent for data hosting.
  • Retention: We retain your Personal Data for as long as your account is active.
  • Pro Data: Pro analytics data is retained for the lifetime of your subscription plus a 24-month grace period. After 24 months of non-Pro status, analytics older than 12 months are archived, and data older than 24 months is anonymised.
  • Account Deletion: You can permanently delete your account at any time via Profile → Account → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.

5. Your Rights (UK and EU GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation, you have the following rights:

  • Access and Portability: You may request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Correction: You can update your profile information at any time within the app.
  • Erasure: You may request that we delete your personal data.
  • Withdrawal of Consent: You may disable location sharing or crash detection at any time through your device settings, though this will disable related core features.
  • Right to Object: You may object to direct marketing at any time; we will stop processing your data for that purpose immediately.
  • Contact: For rights requests or privacy inquiries, contact support@bikermeetups.co.uk.

6. Age Policy

Biker Meetups is intended for motorcycle riders aged 18+. We rely on the truthfulness of the age you provide. If we discover that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will delete the account and associated data.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services or legal requirements. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the "Last Updated" date.
